The Art Spot

Every Saturday the Museum offers a drop in art program from 11a – 2p. Come and let your children explore their creativity by creating an art project in our Golding-Scher classroom. The art projects are self-guided, and the gallery-related monthly themes offer a different art activity each week. No registration required.

January 7: Surprise Supplies Saturday

January 14: Tampa Bay Black Heritage Festival.  Art activity on the Museum’s South Plaza

January 21: Awesome Abstraction—Create your own acrylic masterpiece inspired by the abstract paintings of William Pachner

January 28: All Aboard—Build your own 2-D train inspired collage stimulated by the trains in the artworks of Romare Bearden

February 4: Recollections of Home—Create a vibrant and lush landscape drawing of Florida using chalk pastels

February 11: Music Constructions—Make a musical instrument using a variety of materials

February 18: Romare Bearden Family Day

February 25: Homes of the Future—Build a collage of futuristic homes

March 3 & 4: Gasparilla Arts Festival, Children’s Activity Tent, Curtis Hixon Park 10 am – 2 pm

March 10: Paint with Sound—Record your own musical masterpiece experimenting with instruments

March 17: In with the Old—Excavate an ancient artifact while using earth tone and terra cotta colored Model Magic

March 24: Hand Held Sculptures—Create a unique and intricate sculpture that fits in the palm of your hand

March 31: Mix Me Crazy—Draw, paint, glue and collage your own mixed media artwork by experimenting with an assortment of artistic techniques
