This Saturday morning free drop-in program offers children the opportunity to explore their own creativity by visiting the galleries and creating art projects in the museum's classroom. Projects are self-guided and offer a different art activity each week. No registration required.
February
2/20/2010- Mobiles: Explore the art of balance by making a mobile influenced by the works of Alexander Calder.
2/27/2010- Matisee Cut Outs: Use bright colors and simple shapes to make collages like Matisse's vibrant abstract artworks.
March
3/13/2010- Recycled City: Admire the artwork of Doug Aitken's "Plateau" and create your own city made from boxes.
3/20/2010- Self Portraits: Learn the basics of drawing faces as you draw a self portrait. Then explore the museum to find the self-portraits of the artist Cindy Sherman and Chuck Close.
3/27/2010-Soft Rooms: Make a miniature soft sculpture of a room and view the fabric life size bathroom by the artist Do-Ho Suh.
April
4/10/2010- Tampa Maps: Tampa Museum of Art's lost city exhibition features artworks that explore the idea of cities. Be inspired by our city and use Tampa maps to make a multimedia collage.
4/17/2010- Non Objective Painting: Use shapes, colors and precise lines to make a Frank Stella inspired painting.
4/24/2010- Subway Cars: Build a subway car like the ones that motivated the artist Donna Dennis to create her subway piece with silver girders.
The museum would like to thank the New York Yankees Foundation and Wachovia for providing the funding to make these classes possible through December of the year.
