The Pavilion
The Tampa Museum of Art’s signature annual event The Pavilion, celebrated its 23rd year in 2008. The first Pavilion event was held in 1981. Each year, proceeds from the event provide support for museum exhibitions and educational programs. The next Pavilion will be held in the new Tampa Museum of Art facility, scheduled to open in early 2010.
The 2008 event, The New Pavilion, The Art of Food and Wine, was held on Saturday, November 1 on the rooftop terrace of Skypoint Condominiums in downtown Tampa. The event created excitement about the museum’s future, attracted new patrons and generated significant revenue to support museum endeavors. Numerous dedicated community volunteers spent nearly one year planning the event that drew hundreds of business and philanthropic leaders from throughout the Tampa Bay area. Co-chairs Debra Williams McDaniel and Carlton Carter (pictured above, at left), both members of the museum’s board of trustees, devoted endless hours planning The New Pavilion and related fundraising activities.
The 2008 open-air extravaganza featured food and wine pairings, mesmerizing waterfront views that overlooked the Tampa Museum of Art's future home, private pool-side cabanas, a live international DJ, all on the rooftop terrace of Skypoint Condominiums. The party was catered by Mise en Place of Tampa, and designed by the award winning event design firm conceptBAIT of St. Petersburg.
The New Pavilion was made possible through the generosity of numerous businesses and individuals who donated valuable services. Sponsors of the event included: Augustan Wine Green Zone, Bay Stage Lighting, City of Tampa, conceptBAIT, DEX Imaging, DJ Papi, Due Cani Cellars, intowngroup, Kimmins Contracting Corporation, Mise en Place, Premier Beverage, Ring Power, Room Service Furniture & Event Furniture, Schifino Lee Advertising & Public Relations, Skypoint Condominium residents, Southern Wine & Spirits, The Music Gallery, and Tommy Bahama Rum. Ticket prices for The New Pavilion ranged from $1,200 per couple to $12,500 for a private cabana that seated a party of 10.
The Tampa Museum of Art will announce the 2010 date for The Pavilion in the near future.
